Molière Citations: Satirical Reflections on Society

Molière

Mission

Detailed bronze bust of a man with long wavy hair and a mustache.

Satirical Ridicule

In the tradition of Molière, the Molière mission through Molière quotes aims to deliver satirical ridicule to our readers and audience.

With no apologies to Finley Peter Dunne, we embrace Mr. Dooley’s 1893 observation about the media's role: “To comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”

Examples of the Molière mission include, but are not limited to:

- Ridicule hypocrites

- Call out deliberate misnomers

- Draw invidious comparisons

- Disparage unworthy recipients of awards

- Deride public figures who are in need of a reality check

- Scoff

- Demand justice

- Invite participation

-  Encourage paying EarthRent ℠ , a daily practice in the lives of our followers; this concept reflects appreciation for the blessings of life and making contributions to keeping it all going.

Our Vision

We envision a lively and humorous publication that aligns with our Molière mission, making good-natured though trenchant fun of those who take themselves too seriously, often under the delusion that their chosen work and causes genuinely benefit those they claim to represent. In the spirit of Molière quotes, we aim to highlight the absurdities of various figures in the public arena through satirical ridicule. A preliminary list of the types of citation recipients would include, but not be limited to, the following: Elected Officials, Appointed Officials, Bureaucrats, Whistleblowers, Lobbyists and their clients, those who subscribe to the notion of 'Rules for thee but not for me,' and participants in the so-called 'weaponization of the bureaucracy.' In the grand tradition of Molière, we envision using satire to shed light on the foibles of these individuals and others for the benefit of our audience.

Our Values

If our readers perceive a tendency toward moderate "American" values, it is likely due to the more outrageous examples we observe of citation candidates emerging from both the left and the far right. Hypocrisy and misdirection loom large among the actions of Molière Citation recipients, and from our value system's perspective, they often manifest in the extremes of the political spectrum. When in doubt, we tend to seek guidance from the text and court rulings under the U.S. Constitution, particularly emphasizing First Amendment rights and protections. In alignment with the Molière mission, we also honor well-known phenomena like the Law of Unintended Consequences, which frequently applies to governmental and corporate actions. Confirmation bias and cognitive bias significantly influence our evaluation of the validity and appropriateness of public actions; when the effects of such unacknowledged biases emerge, the result is often risible and subject to satirical ridicule. The recognition that hypocrisy is in full swing may be reached under the circumstances described by Malcolm Gladwell in his book "The Tipping Point." Our value in this scenario lies in identifying the conditions under which the pendulum will either swing back toward the center or continue its momentum, potentially pulling down the entire structure from which it is suspended. A few examples reflecting this value perspective include bestowing undeserved awards by highly regarded organizations, selecting individuals for responsible positions based on ticking boxes rather than merit and capability, and imposing management and regulatory fads that benefit organizations only in concept, not in practice, alongside similar misguided initiatives that urgently require unbiased evaluation. We live in a dynamic world, not a static one; thus, we acknowledge that the validity of today's science and experience is constantly under revision. As such, Molière Citations welcomes factual corrections, honest criticism, and encourages constructive comments on our undertaking. Let us hope that the satirical humor we intend to invoke will serve our organization and audience more positively than when the play "Le Tartuffe" ["The Hypocrite"] was banned due to the protests of powerful individuals supported by the Catholic Church.
