With a tip of the hat to reporter Maya Sulkin, the coveted Molière Celebration is awarded to Zosha and Whitaker Lyons, Generation Z exemplars.
This 20-something couple gives us hope for the future. Not content to join the whiners of the entitled class, Zosha and Whitaker have chosen to flee the society of money driven madness in favor of a slower but more genuine lifestyle. This is a Gen Z Simple Living story. We applaud them for their choice.
Far too often, those of us from preceding generations close the door on new information about everybody after the Boomers. So many reports and surveys indicate that anyone born after, say, the 1960s acts entitled, rude, lazy, critical, and exhibits a host of other undesirable attributes.
Our fixed ideas don’t admit new or conflicting information; as humans we suffer with a condition called “confirmation bias.” That’s the tendency to reject any new information that disagrees with what we already believe. (It’s particularly prevalent in political discourse, among those who rely on emotions instead of facts to make decisions.)
Now come the Lyons couple, not only breaking the unhappy preconceptions of their generation (Z, but the group includes Millennials), but also giving new hope that the arc of development is neither one-way nor irretrievably negative.
With such positive attitudes and bearing the standard of less congested and hurried daily life, Zosha and Whitaker provide new hope that our culture and society may flourish in the heartland. This Gen Z Simple Living story just may hit home for others, as we hope it could be heard by many others. (We’ll leave it to our readers to decide for themselves whether this is actually an urban-rural dichotomy.)
We are delighted to announce the award of the Molière Celebration to Zoomers, Zosha and Whitaker Lyone, now settled back home in Perry, Indiana, and awaiting the arrival of their twins. May you all enjoy good health and fulfillment in your new home!
