Shedding New Light on the Columbus Day – Indigenous Peoples Day Controversy

Christopher Columbus was secretly Jewish, new DNA study reveals.

A new DNA study on the 500-year-old remains of Christopher Columbus has found that the controversial explorer was actually a Sephardic Jew from western Europe.

In today’s world, fraught with instances of anti-Semitism, it’s a challenge for the Molière Citations team to determine whether this discovery is suitable for a Citation or Celebration.

We’re going to choose the light instead of the dark side of this development, and award the Spanish researchers a Celebration for their decades-long work to establish the Jewish roots of the discovery of the New World.

Of course, the Spanish-dominated world of 1492 was a very different proposition, one in which conversion to Catholicism was the only option for Jews other than being exiled or otherwise disposed of.  It’s probably not just a coincidence that it’s the same year that the Moors were finally driven from the Iberian peninsula, after some 700 years of occupation.

Speaking of coincidences, is it possible that there was some deliberate selection of the week of Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day for the researchers to make their announcement?

The Molière Citations team will leave our readers to ponder the significance, and in the meantime wish everyone a Happy Monday celebration of whichever culture you wish to celebrate!
