Anyone who has not received any scam calls this week can stop reading right here.
In your dreams, right?
Today the Molière Celebration goes to Arizona AG Kris Mayes and the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, a coalition of 51 bipartisan attorneys general dedicated to investigating and prosecuting those involved in directing illegal robocall traffic across the United States.
Nowhere to be seen in this report is the Federal Trade Commission (FTC, distinct from the Federal Communications Commission — FCC).
What does the FTC have to do with it, one might ask. For over 25 years, this agency has had the duty to enforce the so-called “Do Not Call” list. See the FTC’s own website: https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/national-do-not-call-registry-faqs
In addition to issuing this Molière Citation to the FTC, we might pose a collateral question about why the Congress continues to fund a full staff of bureaucrats who have been an abject failure in discharging their responsibilities.
A tip of the hat must go to the FCC, for the efforts made to bring some semblance of control to some of the biggest abusers.
Fortunately, in this election season, the failure has persisted through administrations of both parties, so there’s no shortage of blame to go around.
Molière Citations invites our loyal members to respond with nominations for the biggest scam call repeat offenders. Who is your most annoying scam caller, and what are they selling?
Earlier this year we took note to provide a Citation to the FTC. https://molierecitations.com/citation-to-the-federal-trade-commission-for-do-not-call-list-enforcement/
