National Scrabble Day 2024: Mattel’s new ‘accessible’ version of the intellectually rewarding game

After 75 years of Scrabble history, and enjoyment of this mentally stimulating game of wits, Mattel has launched a dumbed-down version, with a team-oriented “accessible” structure on the heretofore unused reverse side of the game board.

The new “Dumb Scrabble” is promoted by Mattel as a way to get a break from your smartphone.
What new rules will apply?

Will “Scrabble for Dummies” no longer be restricted to words in a recognized dictionary?
Apparently the new rules must prohibit challenges against made-up words ( such an affront might make another player feel uncomfortable or triggered).
There can be no winners, because if there are winners, there must be (dare we say it?) losers.

And a reminder to never play Scrabble with a pigeon.  If you do, the pigeon craps on the board, knocks over all the letters, and flies back home to tell all the other pigeons how it beat you.

Molière Citation to Mattel, for this new “feel good” (for some people) version of the formerly intellectual Scrabble game.

PS — Hard to believe that it’s been about 8 years since Mattel introduced the “curvy” Barbie doll.  Draw your own conclusions about how that has worked out.
