Molière Citation to Sen. Chuck Schumer for another About-Face

Once again, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D, NY) has taken a page from the New Testament and turned the other cheek.  Actually, he has given new meaning to the word “cheeky,” as he spouts nonsense that only the most gullible newbie would accept as fact.

Just a few days ago, he asserted that he and his band of Democrat naysayers would rather bring the federal government to a screeching halt than support a bipartisan “Continuing Resolution” passed by the House of Representatives.  His political solution would have thrown more federal workers out of their jobs than the DOGE initiative he takes such delight in decrying.  But never let it be said that Schumer stands on ceremony, tradition, or truth in setting the standard for his party loyalists.

Some wag once said, with some measure of accuracy, that if you can keep your head in the midst of a catastrophe, it probably means that you’ve found someone else to blame it on.  In Schumer’s dictionary, “blame” always comes before “accountability.”

His cloak of responsibility included the claim that “The minimal changes Republicans finagled into their CR include a $10 billion increase to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funding and a $6 billion boost to defense. To help pay for that, the CR pared back on about $13 billion in non-defense discretionary spending.”

Not since the sinking of the Titanic has there been such a complaint about ICE.  As Captain Edward Smith reputedly said when his ship hit the iceberg: “I sent the barman out for ice, but this is ridiculous!”

His main concern: “Under a shutdown, the Trump administration would have full authority to deem whole agencies, programs, and personnel nonessential, furloughing staff with no promise they would ever be rehired,” Schumer warned Thursday. “The decision on what is essential would be solely left to the executive branch with nobody left at the agencies to check them.”

Ironically, many of the Democrats who called for a hardball approach to the government shutdown fight would be utilizing the filibuster, something that many Senate Democrats previously attempted to pare back.

I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country, to minimize the harms (sic) to the American people, therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”

Hey Chuck, you’ve already pulled that leg — it’s time to pull the other one.

It’s more likely that Chuck is trying to do to the country what he did for Joe Biden – throw us under the bus (and blame it on anybody else).

If you want to do your party and the rest of us a favor, here’s our advice: Take a long walk off a short pier.

Once again, the Molière Citation is awarded to Senator Schumer for his unique ability to bend the truth into a pretzel without blinking an eye.  Congratulations!
