Molière Citation Awarded to GOP Congressional Leadership

Molière Citation Awarded to GOP Congressional Leadership

We are distressed to have to issue a Citation to the GOP – Republican Congressional leaders for their abandonment of their Constitutional responsibilities in favor of party and personal influences.

That’s a tough call to make, but we’ve made the effort to review the Congressional Oath of Office, and commend our readers to read it with us:

https://oaths.us/senate-oath-of-office/

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

What are those duties, under the Constitution? We’re all aware of the intentional system of checks and balances, particularly under Articles I, II, and III, which set out the authorities and responsibilities of the 3 branches: Congressional, Executive, and Judicial.

To the contrary, there’s absolutely nothing in that Oath suggesting that party or personal loyalty should interfere with the stated duties.

Presently, we are seeing the abandonment of these duties in favor of single-minded support of the MAGA-FAFO administration.

To be clear, we are not taking issue with some, even many, of the policies of the Administration — just the inappropriate lockstep of the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate (and their minions).

Do the words “I don’t work for you!” sound familiar? They should.  How about “I am responsible to my District and State constituents and to the Constitution of the United States.” That DOES include each one of these elected officials. We the People placed you in this role to SERVE each one of US.

It’s time to grow a collective pair and take your Oaths seriously.

While we’re at it, we should provide an honorable mention to the counterparts of these leaders on the other side of the aisle (Democrats Jeffries and Schumer, and their team members).  Your inflammatory rhetoric belies the traditional responsibilities of the “loyal opposition” — you set a bad example for Americans in exercising their own Constitutional rights. Let us not forget the whole cabal circling Schumer earlier this week, around a microphone and podium where other Democratic Senators joined him. This included Senators Patty Murray, Ron Wyden, Brian Schatz, and Elizabeth Warren.

Our award would be incomplete if we failed to mention the role of Mitch McConnell, who can always be counted on to draw attention to himself by offering just enough opposition to avoid changing the outcome of important votes.  The last positive stroke he took was to prevent Merrick Garland from serving on the Supreme Court. Not meaning any ill-will to Senator McConnell who took a fall down Senate stairs today, his spokesperson said “Senator McConnell is fine.”

(Another day, we’ll talk about how Harry Reid’s “Nuclear Option” actually showed Mitch the way to frustrate Obama’s pick from getting onto the highest court in the land.  It serves as a precedent for the short-sightedness of the Democrats in setting precedents and then acting surprised when they become tools of “turnabout is fair play” when the shoe is on the other foot.  Does “Lawfare” resonate?)

To recall another incident, in 2014 Obama too held a pen and made executive changes from the Oval Office, as this video from Politico shows. Interesting that Politico news is now being scrutinized today.  https://www.politico.com/video/2014/01/obama-on-2014-agenda-ive-got-a-pen-phone-004537

Without belaboring the matter any further, here’s a photo of the Molière Citation recipients, to keep the focus where it needs to be today:
