At this juncture, it is by no means clear whether this development merits a Molière Citation or Celebration.
Should those who can read the handwriting on the wall and understand its meaning — and do something about it — be ridiculed or celebrated?
In this case, are the truth-tellers being suppressed in order to avoid offending the victim of elder abuse?
There is a move afoot to say in public what nearly everyone is saying in private.
It’s a very touchy time as well, with an active program undertaken by much of the press to misinform and misinterpret the news for the public.
It’s virtually impossible to read more than a few news sources from different perspectives (sectors of the political spectrum) and not come away with the feeling that they are reporting from different planets.
The Molière Citations team does agree on one thing, though: we hope that the violent rhetoric (from both sides) can be toned down, and that there will be no repeat of the assassination attempt of last Saturday.
Now that the other shoe has dropped at the GOP convention, we can only hope that next month’s Democratic party convention will not be the scene of any violence, and that an orderly, peaceful transfer of power can be accomplished.
