“Progressive groups, emboldened by the Democratic grassroots’ extreme dissatisfaction at their party’s older establishment, are preparing to go big in their efforts to unseat Democratic lawmakers.”
The Molière team announces the Celebration of the Millennials’ incipient coup against the Old (we mean “Ancient”) Guard of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party generational divide is faced as many Millennials (Gen Y) push for more progressive policies, often clashing with the party’s older, more moderate leadership.
Democratic Party Generational Divide
The poster child (are we allowed to say that?) appears to be David Hogg, DNC Vice Chair — who has been informed that he must choose between his Vice Chair position (where he must refrain from supporting challengers to incumbents) and his stated desire to do just that: bring in a new generation of “outcumbents” who want to replace the incumbents.
“CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten warned that a “revolt” is going on in the Democratic Party as voters grow weary of the current leadership.”
The tables are not-so-slowly turning: the party’s future bodes a reversal of the old dynamics, and the young will eat the old. (Does this remind anyone of Charlton Heston’s famous line in the film “Soylent Green”?)
As always, what is old is new again. At the standard cutoff point between the Boomers and Generation X, this watershed event occurred:
In 1964 “The Philadelphia Inquirer” of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania told readers about the upcoming debut of a comic strip called “The Wizard of Id” created by the team of Brant Parker and Johnny Hart:
The comic is straight from the Dark Ages-but its satirical, tongue-in-cheek views of royalty somehow never made the formal history books.
There is the King of Id—”a tyrant’s tyrant” — who, when told the peasants are “revolting,” calmly replies, “You can say THAT again.”
With all this in mind, we are encouraged to add a reminder to the “No Labels” folks that your influence is doomed if you don’t run candidates for office. Hint: NL has been around for 15 years, while Amanda Litman, founder of Run For Something , has only been at it for half that long.
We’re pleased to announce this joint award of the Celebration for the new wave of youthful candidates washing up on the shores of the Democratic Party (may it arrive as a tsunami), and a Citation for the aging and ineffective “leaders” who desperately cling to power.

We’re moved to quote Charlton Heston again, when he issued this warning in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ju4Gla2odw
Let us hope that the aging-out elected officials in the Congress will be less confrontational when the time comes for them to relinquish power to the next generation, and avoid having to issue the 5-word challenge “From My Cold Dead Hands.”
