And today’s update

8 km = $40 million per km or $25 million per mile.
10 days since it opened and now it’s inoperable and being moved to an Israeli port for repairs.
The initial estimate to build it was $160 million, so a 100% cost overrun.
Who knows what the price will be by the time it is back in service (if ever).
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin must have been spinning in his hospital bed. Acting Secretary Kathleen Hicks must have been relieved to welcome him back, so she could claim that the pier didn’t fail on her watch.
If we could imagine a gold plated toilet seat or a $900 hammer blushing with shame, the Gaza Pier debacle would be ripe to join the parade.
It does make one wonder whether the failure of leadership, design engineering, installation, and operation of the Gaza Pier should be laid at the feet of the entire Defense Department practice of promoting based on factors other than merit and competence.
Molière Citation is awarded to the U.S. Department of Defense for the ongoing Gaza Pier debacle.
Stay tuned!
