Oh, my — this is so bogus!

“Journalist and author Tracie McMillan did the math: The advantages she’s gotten over her life from being White, she estimates, amount to $371,934.30.”

Really?  A “family bonus” and a “social” bonus — just for being White?!?

What new math could have been applied here, and what statistical foundation was used?  If one has the right sense of humor, it could be an effort to turn a yardstick into a slapstick.

20 years as a professional journalist, and subtracting the $146K from her family, she has ONLY benefited from about $6K per year from her purported “social bonus” — something doesn’t add up.

One can only guess how this weak analysis can result in a book worth reading.  Seems more like a fragile hook on which to hang the “Look at me!” message.

BTW, there’s no indication of any intention to pay back (or forward) the $371K to anyone.  Wouldn’t that be the obvious solution to getting past this mea culpa?
