Kerrey, who was a 1992 Democratic presidential candidate, ripped into Biden for his tone and the content of the letter.
“I read that letter,” he said on “The Claman Countdown” Monday.
“If I was a Democratic member of Congress, I’d call the White House and say, ‘You made a mistake. You don’t send this letter out to us,’” he continued. “If I question [whether] you can defeat Donald Trump, I’m bad for democracy? It’s blatantly untrue, it’s self-serving and not helpful.”
We are pleased to award a Molière Celebration to Bob Kerrey, who left the Senate too soon, but continues to be a truth-teller.
Political jawboning has been around for a long time, but this kind of destructive threat by the executive against the legislative branch is nothing less than an attempt to wield dictator-like power.
Never mind the protestations of people like the Senate Majority Leader, who (not to culturally appropriate a time-honored phrase) speaks with forked tongue. What report might we get from a fly on the wall of Schumer’s office last week? Too bad he’s not up for reelection this year. (Besides, after personally going to the steps of the Supreme Court and threatening 2 sitting Justices by name, Chuck probably thinks it’s fair game.)
But let’s look on the bright side. The developing forces are with Bob Kerrey and the others who refuse to participate in the political fraud being foisted off against the donors and the voters.
We commend former Senator Kerrey in taking a public stance against the inappropriate and destructive attempt by Joe (and no doubt Dr. Jill) to cling to power.
Who’s the threat to democracy now?
